Holding On

I don’t pray enough with my wife. I don’t pray very much in general. It usually goes like this “I should pray. I don’t really want to. I’m bad.” God please help me to amend that conversation with “We should really pray then!”

I am so weak when it comes to the fight, but I don’t want to succumb to the “well look at this area where you are sucking! You should give up!” I want to hold onto where I’ve grown and praise God for it and keep pushing forward into these other areas.

    Hi Dwayne,

Turns out I’m following your blog regularly now, and not just to track comments on the Small Churches thread! You post good material and 4hands is now near the top of my list to check daily. The Washer video had much the same effect on me as it did on you.

Here are a few more book recommendations (because you asked – sort of), and then I’ll shut up…for a while.

On writing concisely: Style by Joseph Williams (the newer editions are better) and On Writing Well by William Zinsser.

On praying for your wife: How to Pray for Your Wife by Mark Weathers (there’s a review at DR on it) and Water of the Word: Intercession for Her by Andrew Case (this recommendation is tentative because I haven’t read it yet; Tim Challies will probably review it in the next few weeks).

    Blessings,

    Mark@DR

I am glad to hear that Mark! I noticed in some of your reviews some shared interests including a fondness for Pipers poetry! Anyone who likes them is a real man in my book. :D

I will order Style and How to Pray for You Wife this Friday. As someone who is probably not as well read as you, I very much appreciate reading suggestions!
